Stage Combat Workshop

ages 16+

Have you ever been involved in a scene that included a slap and had no idea how to make it look cool? Have you ever had an audition where they asked you to fall, and weren't sure you could do it safely? Have you ever secretly wanted to be a Power Ranger or Marvel Superhero? Then this is the class for you! In this six week intensive course, students will be given the basics of unarmed combat, including punches, pushes, and practical falls, with an emphasis on safety and theatricality, as well as important practical lessons for combat etiquette in film, TV, and Theatre. The class will culminate in a combat focused scene written by the students. Liam Yates has taught combat workshops across North Carolina for the past 5 years. He received his combat certificate from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and was instructed and granted his certificate by Philip Croskin (Known for choreographing John Malkovich in 'Burn This' at the Lyric Theatre in London, among other productions). He has also choreographed productions for Pittsboro Youth Theatre, North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre, as well as choreographing and directing Julius Caesar for Cardboard Box Ensemble in 2017.
